Thou, too, sail on, O Ship of State!
There is a vacuum
in the center
where great men
once stood.
They cannot be replaced,
though others,
maybe greater,
may arise and
eclipse them.
Perhaps not.
The small man
makes the world
seem heavy and
dangerous, proceeding
from fear and sanctifying
ignorance.
The great man
makes the ship of state
seem small and yar,
stalwart and invincible,
and the sea, so vast,
navigable.
